Cc: Stierwalt Cattle & Clinics
Topics Discussed:
1.) “JR” Steer Raised By Wayne Lautner Of Lautner Farms
2.) 22 Year Old Kirk Stierwalt went from clipping Grand Champion Steer at Denver in 1981 to clipping “JR” at the open to the world steer show at 1981 Iowa State Fair.
3.) This success at such a young age spring boarded Stierwalt to his legendary show cattle career and famous grooming clinics.
4.) Wayne Lautner says Lautner Farms struggled to get any attention for their cow/calf operation until one of the most famous steers of the 1980’s “JR” was born at the Lautner Farm in March of 1980 sired by Idalgo and out of a Angus cow. #FunFact: Idalga sired Nero, who then sired the legendary Sugar Ray.
5.) From there “JR” would go on to win Iowa, Nebraska & Texas state fairs in the summer and fall of 1981. The Lautner Farms cattle operation would go on to own famous show cattle sires Payback and others in the 90’s.
6.) 54 Year old Lance Messerly of Webster City, Iowa originally showed “JR” to the 1981 Iowa Beef Expo Grand Champion Steer honors. In June 1981, the Messerly family made the tough choice to sell “JR” to the Vogel family of Hereford, Texas for a undisclosed $ amount between the 2 guests.
7.) 53 year old Rickie Vogel remembers the exciting early 80’s showtimes including his family winning steer shows at 1981 Houston Livestock Show, 1981 State Fair of Texas, 1983 American Royal & 1983 Arizona National. A powerhouse Texas show family of the 1980’s.
Tune in to hear great history of grooming, breeding, fitting, showing, and friendship.
